I know I need to stop checking my HR but anyway when I woke

Customer Question

Hi doc.. I know I need to stop checking my HR but anyway when I woke up this morning my HR was 85 and it stayed between 95-100 all morning.. It's only just come back down to the low 70s now .. I have got a bit of a cold with a stuffed nose and sore throat .. Could it be a virus that's caused it?

Hello and welcome,

Yes this can be due to virus which can increase the pulse rate. Pulse rate is a very dynamic body parameter which can increase due to mild grade infection. It may increase due to anxiety too. Nothing worrisome here with these fluctuations of your pulse.

Let me know if you have any further question.

Hi doc what's your opinion
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.

Sounds viral for now and yes that can vary the pulse a bit

If the sore throat lasts longer than five days you'll need to get it checked out to see if it's strep

Ok so my pulse being 95-100 for the morning 4 hours is normal with the virus? It's back to 75 now
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 year ago.

Yes that's normal and to be expected
