My brother had a HIDA scan done today and the dr doing it

Customer Question

My brother had a HIDA scan done today and the dr doing it said he couldn't find his gall bladder. He's been hospitalized for over a month with pancreatitis and gall bladder issues but is too weak to have the gallbladder removed. Is it normal for the dye to move that slowly through the system? He was in the room for about 4 hours.

Hi. Most likely his cystic duct to his gall bladder is blocked by a gall stone. In that case the bile from the liver with the contrast or tracer can't get into the gall bladder. Whether or not his gall bladder needs to be removed would depend on whether the cystic duct blockage is permanent
