Recently noticed my gums bleed a little bit when I brush my teeth. A little over two weeks ago I had a CBC done and the only abnormality was a MPV of 13.6, which is high according to the normal range on the sheet. Is this leukemia?
Thank you for your question,
I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.
This does not suggest leukemia.
In leukemia the WBC count is very high along with abnormal cells.
Gum bleeding can occur from many other causes.
Gingivitis, vitamin C deficiency can cause it.
Trauma from brushing can also cause it.
Please take fresh fruits & vegetables.
That would help to correct if there is any deficiency.
I hope this information helps.

So does my blood work look normal to you then? What about the heightened MPV?

High MPV can occur from different causes.
Though myeloproliferative conditions can cause it but it needs to be considered with other counts.
Rapid production can cause large size of platelet.
Inflammation, iron deficiency can also cause a rise.

So based on my blood work listed, with this being the only abnormality, should I be concerned? My doctor didn't seem to be.

I feel you should not be concerned as your other counts are within normal range.
