My son is 8 years old and has been runing a fever for 24hrs. My wife has been giving him tylenol and motrin, however his fever has not stopped. They have been ranging from 100-104.
Thank you for your question,
I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.
How many times did he have rise of temperature in last 24 hours?
Does the temperature go down with Motrin?
How is the temperature now?
When did he take last Motrin/Tylenol?
Is there any other symptom?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Rise of temperaure 4+ times

Temperature did go down to 99.7 only and would go back up

Temperature now is 100.2 with tylenol and motrin combined as well as a cool shower at 10pm.

Other symptom is yellow spots on tonsils.

Hello Carlos,
Thank you for the information,
From the history of your son, it appears that he is having an upper respiratory infection.
As he is having yellow spot on tonsil, there can be bacterial infection.
Test should be taken to know the cause.
Antibiotic can be needed too if it comes out as bacterial.
He will need an examination by doctor.
As the temperature 100 now, you can wait tonight, tomorrow you should take him to doctor.
You can give Motrin 4 hours after Tylenol if the temperature stays above 101F.
Do not combine both, sometimes combination medicines can reduce the temperature below normal.
Give him plenty of fluid & rest.
Warm saline gargle can be soothing if he can do.
I hope this information helps.

He does not have a cough, conjestion, or runny nose. he began with lack of appetite on Sunday night followed by vomiting. We have been giving him fluids and he ate normal on Monday with only symptom being temperature fluctuation and yellow spots on throat.

Does he have pain in the throat?
Does the yellow spot on both/one side?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

No pain complaint on throat while eating and drinking, and yellow spots are on both sides.

Yellow spot on the tonsil can be due to tonsillitis or infection.
If inflammation is more, then pain can be felt.
In tonsillitis, cough, congestion, or runny nose may not present.
Fever can occur in tonsillitis.
Throat swab test can be taken to know whether it is bacterial infection or not.

Would there be concerns of strepthroat or are symptoms different than tonsilitis. If it would be strepthroat what are symptoms and what happens if left untreated.

In strep throat or in other bacterial / viral infection of the throat, the symptoms can be same.
Yellow spot can be pus.
Pus is common in bacterial infection.
Strep infection can produce complication.
If it is strep infection, it should treated asap to prevent complication.
