What does "most basic" mean in this context, "An x-ray is usually the most basic investigation to pick up scoliosis. So, an x-ray of the whole spine can usually detect scoliosis."
Hi--most basic means the simplest method of picking up scoliosis. That said, if the scoliosis is minor on plain x-rays, it may not be mentioned by the radiologist on his MRI reports simply because minor scoliosis is without any symptoms
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

So if the standing x-ray is the simpliest method to pick up scoliosis what is the most advanced method? The standing x-ray simply reads, "the patient does have thoracolumbar scoliosis."

Actually the x-ray is all that's needed to evaluate scoliosis--the angle of deviation or bend in the spine can be measured fairly precisely and there is no need to fine tune the angle measurement with an MRI
