Hi! I woke up this morning with a boil on my inner thigh. My sister said boils can be a symptom of diabetes. I just had a cbc and cmp with glucose 3 weeks ago and everything was in normal range. Could my sugar levels change so fast?

Hi there,

This is Dr. D.J., experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Dr. D.J. :

It is very unlikely for blood glucose to change so fast.

Dr. D.J. :

Boils can be caused by the skin bacteria in normal individuals also.

Dr. D.J. :

MRSA is one such bacteria that can be contracted from another person, say for example, in shower, swimming pool etc.

Dr. D.J. :

You can use over the counter bacitracin ointment twice daily for 5 days.

Dr. D.J. :

However, if no improvement is seen by tomorrow, then you will need prescription antibiotic ointment like Mupirocin.

Customer: So this is not a symptom of diabetes?
Dr. D.J. :

does not sound like that since you had recent normal blood tests.

Customer: Thanks
Dr. D.J. :

very welcome
