as you know i take symbicort 200/6 2 puffs twice a day, i've been on this for a long time and want to cut down and try and come off it, are there any other better inhalers with no steroids that might help instead of symbicort?.

Hello and welcome, Khalid.

You would need a very gradual tapering down of the Symbicort as you have been taking it for long. Once you are trying to taper it down, you can start any of the long acting beta2 agonist inhalers. This is the list;

1) Salemetrol (Serevent Diskus)
2) Formoterol- Foradil Aerolizer, Perforomist
3) Arformoterol - Brovana, Erdotin.

Once your symptoms are adequately controlled, you can decrease the Symbicort and increase the above. Many people may not need the steroid inhaler or need it very occasionally with long acting beta2 agonists. You can also discuss with your doctor to prescribe you Montelukast tablets. The advantages are that it is chewable, it has a once-a-day dosing, and it has no significant adverse effects.
