Mother fell and bumped her head. Possibility of concussion? Do we just try to keep her awake until 2:30 dr appt, or take her to hospital er now? Elderly 88 yr old with DNR & POST forms.
Well firstly you should apply some cool compresses with ice wrapped in towel on bump or with wet cold sponge (a cold wet pad or folded cloth) on bump for 10 minutes.

Serious head injuries usually (but not always) will involve a brief loss of consciousness and/or some memory loss.
As such the symptoms of a head injury can occur immediately or develop slowly over several hours or days .
So, as with anyone with a head injury, closely watch for 24 hours after the incident.

However, there are symptoms to watch out for.

Any symptom that is getting worse, such as headaches.

Irritability or confusion

Dilated pupils (pupils that are bigger than normal) or pupils of different sizes

Trouble walking or speaking

Drainage of bloody or clear fluids from ears or nose

Weakness or numbness in the arms or legs

She should take Tylenol only.

It is generally OK for someone to go to sleep after hitting head.
She can sleep and it is advised to her family member to look after her.
One can use an alarm clock set at one or two hourly intervals to wake up and arouse her to ensure that there is no complication, for next 24 hours.

In case she develop any associated symptoms then visit ER.
Otherwise consult your doctor as per scheduled.

I hope this helps.
If you have any further query then feel free to ask.
Positive feedback and bonus are highly appreciated.
Thank you.
