Gallbladder gone & still painful --Sphincter of Oddi ?? I

This answer was rated:

Gallbladder gone & still painful --Sphincter of Oddi ?? I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago. I have been fine. I do a liver flush (olive oil & Epsom salt) a week ago. I do this every year. But this year I started having pain on my right side in the back of my lowest rib a few days after I did the liver flush. It started out minor pain a couple of days ago and is getting progressively worse I ate a torta sandwich (kinda greasy) and I was in much pain. As long as I just drink juice and water it doesn't hurt much. But If I eat anything it starts to hurt.

Hi there,

I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to help you with your concerns.

mysticdoc :

A pancreatitis is also possible.

mysticdoc :

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction is another possibility as you thought.

mysticdoc :

There is a possibility of a growth or obstruction at the opening of the sphincter of Oddi.

mysticdoc :

Definitely, you need the blood tests --liver function test, amylase, lipase first.

mysticdoc :

Then a CT scan with contrast should be considered if these enzyme levels are high.

mysticdoc :

ERCP or MRCP is the next step if CT scan is not diagnostic.

mysticdoc :

Follow a bland diet meanwhile.

mysticdoc :

You may consider going to the ER in this cases.

Customer:

I had all those blood tests a few weeks ago. My blood tests were excellent.

Customer:

When I did the liver flush (olive oil, Epsom salt, lemon juice) can it still pass stones even though I don't have a gallbladder?

mysticdoc :

That is unlikely.

Customer:

So what could it be?

mysticdoc :

SOD is likely.

mysticdoc :

or a pancreatic duct obstruction.

mysticdoc :

from a growth or stenosis.

Customer:

thank you

mysticdoc :

very welcome
