I went to a sallon yesterday and the lady that was plaiting

Customer Question

Hi Doc, i went to a sallon yesterday and the lady that was plaiting my hair could be hiv positive because of her multiple sexual partners. Am not too sure if in the process of plainting the niddle pricked her a sewing niddle that we use for plaiting hair. At the end when she was trying to cut out the thread the niddle pricked me. Could i be infected?

Welcome to and thank you for your question.
I am going to assist you with your question.
Well, this would not be a source of HIV
HIV can occur from a needle stick only where there is a bolus of fresh blood that is transferred immediately to a care giver by accident.
HIV doesn't get transferred during to plaiting process at saloon.
The risk of transmission after exposure to HIV-infected blood is about 0.3% during this process.
In my opinion, no you were not at risk.
Such injuries are very common in saloon, and it would not make you at risk for getting HIV or other serious infection.
You are just fearing due to anxiety. Please don't get panic.
You are absolutely safe and healthy.
No need to get panic, and worry for HIV.
The main route for HIV transmission are-
-Unprotected penetrative sex with someone who is infected.
-Through Sharing unsterilized injection equipment .
-Injection or transfusion of contaminated blood or blood products.
-From a mother who is infected to her baby during pregnancy.
Please don't take stress. You are safe.
Please let me know how I can be of further assistance.
My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have gotten anything less, please reply back, I am happy to address follow-up questions.
