My Dad was just diagnosed with stage I lung cancer and had a lobectomy. He had no risk factors so we bought a radon detector and placed it in his basement. It registered 5.6. Is that high enough to have caused the lung cancer and do others in the house need a preventative screening due to the exposure?
Hi--that level is above the recommended 4.0 or less by the EPA. While that alone isn't absolute proof that radon caused your dad's lung cancer, the other members of the household should be screened with a chest x-ray and a ct scan of the lungs.

Do you know if that is considered a slightly high level or very high?

Not very high but high enough to have the house inspected.
