I have swollen lymph nodes under my jaw that are hard, painful to touch.
Thank you for your question,
I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.
When did those develop?
How many are there?
Are they on both sides?
Are they enlarging or increasing in number?
Do you have any other symptom?
Did you have any test?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

they developed over the last couple of days, there is one at the end if jaw near chin, and one on the left side. I don't know if they are enlarging or not... and I haven't had any tests... I also should let you know that I chew tobacco...

Do you have any pain in side mouth, sore throat?
Any tooth or gum problem?
When did you start chewing tobacco?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

I don't have a soar throat, sometimes i do but it is off and on.. I do have tooth problems.. I have a chipped tooth in back that has a dark spot on the chip. I started chewing tobacco when i was 15 but was really mild then, but started heavily when I was about 20 and have been off and on since that age (around 2 months on then about 5 months off)

Thank you Wayne, for the information.
Lymph nodes are often enlarged & inflamed if there is an infection/inflammation in its draining area.
This can occur in mouth, gum, throat, tooth.
An skin infection can also lead to an enlarged lymph node.
I would suggest to take an examination by doctor to find out the source of infection.
In bacterial infection, you can need antibiotic.
Tobacco swelling is a predisposing factor for cancer.
But it is uncommon at your age.
Still you should avoid tobacco.
Anti inflammatory analgesics like motrin can be helpful to reduce the pain if you do not have any contraindication.
I will be happy to assist, if you need any further clarification.
Please feel free for any follow up query.
Best wishes.

Ok, thanks for your reply. I will go see a doctor, but do you think I should be worried about cancer?

You are always welcome.

I do not think that you should be worried about cancer.

Painful node which has started in a couple of days is more likely from an infection.

Good luck.
