There can be a few possibilities for the swelling.
There can be an infection of the glands associated with hair follicles there.
This can cause pain & swelling.
Blood count may be normal in mild infection.
Lymph nodes can be enlarged & inflamed.
Cyst can form there from blockage of gland.
As your pain is getting unbearable, I would suggest to take an examination by doctor again.
You can take antiinflammatory analgesics like motrin or naproxen, if there is no other contraindication.
That will help with pain.
You can apply warm, moist compress too.
