Since may I have been dealing with bronchitis. A z pack didn't work so I was put on augmentin. I finished the augmentin 4 days ago. I was finally feeling better. Then like next day the coughing and the shortness of breath came back. And has been getting worse. I went to urgent care my pulse oxygen was 96% my pulse was 90 and my lungs sounds I was told were inflamed. He said I don't think another chest x ray is necessary. Or anti-biotics. He changed my advisor to Flovent and I am Xopenex as well. He said to me I don't know what's going on. Your lungs are Inflammed and I don't know why. I cough and it sounds like a sealy kind of cough I'm short of breath and constantly breaking out in. A sweat. What could the problem be? My labs were drawn two weeks ago just a CBC and everything was normal. So what's going on with me?

Anthony Bray MD : Hello!
Anthony Bray MD : I think that there are several possible causes to the sequence of events that you have experienced...
Customer: Hello, that's good at least it's better than starting from nowhere
Anthony Bray MD : Fir one you may have had a partially susceptible bacteria as the cause. It may still be that you would benefit to switch antibiotics to something like Avelix or Levaquin for ten days...
Anthony Bray MD : I think that it may be useful for you to collect a sputum culture sample in a sterile cup and have this tested...
Anthony Bray MD : I think that a chest X-ray or even a chest CT could be very helpful to making a true diagnosis to your case....
Customer: Okay because they had me on a very high dose of augmentin. The ER doctor didn't think anything anti-biotics wouldn't do anything since I had been on them for almost a months
Customer: They said nothing would change from the chest x ray I had two weeks ago.
Anthony Bray MD : If the prolonged cough were due to asthma or COPD then a prednisone taper could be helpful( but your doctor needs to use caution with this as it can make an infection worse)
Customer: I can't tolerate prednisone at all.
Anthony Bray MD : well you have been on two separate classes of antibiotics and I think that obtaining a sputum culture would be a helpful step for you. There are pathogens that could have resistance to both of the antibiotics that you have been on...
Customer: so any ideas what's been causing the chronic bronchitis, lung inflammation and coughing? As well as the exhaustion and constant sweatiness? Also since I have been sick I have been incredibly thirsty I drink 7 to 8 bottles a day. My Input isn't matching my output. I maybe go twice a day. Is thy related to what's going on?
Anthony Bray MD : the chest X-ray could be redundant but these may change over time too. With a prolonged cough it is often helpful to move to a chest CT. This shows much more detail...
Anthony Bray MD : There could be different reasons for your increased thirst. I would want to rule out diabetes as a possible cause with that history....
Anthony Bray MD : you may have chronic bronchitis caused by inflammation and not an infection such as smokers, asthmatics and COPD patients. In this case a med such as Singulair may help or a steroid inhaler or a prednisone taper to calm the inflammation. This can take several weeks...
Anthony Bray MD : I hope this information is helpful for you. If you have further questions then let me know and I will be happy to get back with you.
Customer: Well I don't smoke I do have blood sugar swings caused by my pcos. Recent testing showed somehow that my body regulates glucose just fine but that my insulin level is so low it couldn't be measured. I am
Customer: I am
Customer: I am on methotrexate for ankylosing spondylitis. Could that be a contributing factor?
Anthony Bray MD : If my answers have been helpful and to your satisfaction then please remember to leave positive feedback. That would be much appreciated. Thank you and best regards,
Anthony Bray MD : Anthony Bray MD
Customer: Okay thank you
Anthony Bray MD : Well the MTX is probably not a huge factor but it does have some effect to weaken your immune system....
Anthony Bray MD : you are very welcome!! Let me know if you have further questions! I would ask your doctor to check a hemoglobin A1C test to check your blood sugar metabolism -- this reflects what your blood sugar has been doing for the past 3 months...
Customer: Can do thanks for everything. And thank you for not saying I don't know. Lol.
Anthony Bray MD : You are very welcome! Take care!! I hope that you feel better soon!!
