hi doc I just noticed about 3 days ago that my ankles are swollen. Not huge but enough for me to notice. I have gained some extra weight as of late. And im just now starting a diet. I have been eating out a lot this past year due to my job so i thought today that this maybe attributed to high sodium intake. I have had full heart and treadmill tests a year ago every thing was fine. My blood pressure had been 150/95. Could this be from the high sodium? Should i be concerned?

DR HASAN :

DR HASAN :

DR HASAN :

Customer:

DR HASAN :

DR HASAN :

Customer:

nope no shortness of breath when lying down...no shortness of breath when i go to bed at night...when i go jogging i dont feel out of breath or anything of that manner

DR HASAN :

Thanks a lot for your input.

DR HASAN :

I am sorry to hear about your problem.

DR HASAN :

According to the duration of your symptoms and as per absence of symptoms i asked for, i don't suspect anything serious in your case.

DR HASAN :

Yes i agree that heart, liver and kidney diseases can cause this but there has to be symptoms which present with the swelling.

DR HASAN :

Many a times this swelling is without any cause and it gets better itself.

DR HASAN :

you just have to follow few steps.

DR HASAN :

Don't sit for long with legs hanging on chair.

DR HASAN :

Sleep with a pillow under feet.

DR HASAN :

Don't sit for long and try to move around in between.

DR HASAN :

High sodium is not the likely cause in your case.

Customer:

aww ok i see

Customer:

i had a full cardio echo and treadmill test about a year ago and i was perfect so thats why i didnt think it was heart

DR HASAN :

Well with heart problem, the swelling should be extensive (although not necessarily) but the breathlessness is usually there too.

DR HASAN :

Because fluids in heart problem gets accumulated in lungs too to cause breathlessness specially while lying down.

DR HASAN :

So i think it's too early with these symptoms to suspect anything serious.

DR HASAN :

Just keep yourself under observation and if swelling goes away after following my advise, nothing else will be required.

DR HASAN :

If it worsen then see your doctor but i am hopeful that you will remain ok.

DR HASAN :

Any question?

Customer:

ok thanks doc im thankful for your service
