An mri finding once showed a disc abutting arachnoid space,

since the disc was already in arachnoid layer, does this mean i have aarachnoiditis
Hi--no, the report means that a part of the disk is abutting--touching--the thecal space or the outer layer of the spinal cord but that doesn't mean you have arachoiditis--that's caused by infections or sometimes from injections of medications into the epidural space.

no - i think it said it was abutting the arachnoid space, which means it was already in the arachoid layer, where arachoiditis occurs

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

what is the thecal space? i thought archoid was the outer apce

Well the dura mater is the very outer layer of the spinal cord and the arachnoid mater is the next layer inside. The report may be confusing you a little but it basically means that part of the disk is just beginning to touch the spinal cord, but that doesn't cause true arachnoiditis although it can cause symptoms like numbness in the leg.
