I got posion ivy again. It seems I can get it from animals? or ? can it be that contacgious? I know I personally did not touch any? does it really spread that easily? I got a steroid shot.

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

Poison ivy is not contagious.

The fluid in blisters is due to allergic reaction, there is no chemicals or bacterial toxin.
The rash may appear after a few days.

It may take 2 weeks to appear too.

Though it appears that the rash is spreading , but it can be the original contact site which developed into rash later.

Poison ivy rash can appear from indirect contact too.

This can occur from pet fur, clothings, garden materials which came in contact with poison ivy.

You will need the same treatment, probably prednisolone too depending on the severity of the rash.

You need to consult doctor again.

You can take antihistamine like zyrtec or benadryl.

You can apply hydrocortisone cream over it.

I hope this information will be helpful.

Please ask if you need any clarification.

Best wishes.
