Hello,

I had a fever a week ago. It's gone now but since then I've been coughing non-stop with mucus. It gets worse at night and sometimes I couldn't sleep. I've been taking cough syrup, cough drop during the day and Mucinex (it makes me feel dizzy so I stop) and the home remedy (lime juice with honey & ginger root) but nothing seems to make it better. I drink warm water all the time and stop soda and greasy food. Should I start taking antibiotic? Or it's time to go see the doctor? I do have a swollen tonsil which I've been to the doctor and was told it could be anything and it should be ok as long as it doesn't grow or start bothering me.

Dr Brims :

Hello, welcome to the site! My name isXXXXX and I will try to assist you with your medical question, and any medical information you seek

Dr Brims :

What color is the mucus?

Dr Brims :

Do you have any chest pain or shortness of breath?

Customer:

hello,

Customer:

the mucus is clear

Customer:

and I do have some chest pain which started after I've been coughing for a while

Dr Brims :

Okay, any chills?

Customer:

No.

Dr Brims :

Okay, this may still be irritation in your bronchi, I don't think it is an infection at this time

Dr Brims :

You said mucinex makes you dizzy?

Customer:

Yes, I only took one and fell asleep, I woke up feeling really dizzy.

Customer:

I'm not sure if that's normal?

Dr Brims :

Was it mucinex D or mucinex?

Customer:

Mucinex D

Dr Brims :

Okay, do you have nasal congestion?

Customer:

No

Dr Brims :

Okay, then you would be better off taking mucinex instead of mucinex D

Dr Brims :

It will not likely cause dizziness

Customer:

Oh ok

Customer:

So the coughing should be gone in a couple days?

Customer:

it doesn't seem like it's getting better at all and at night I feel horrible.

Dr Brims :

Yes , it should subside within a few days

Customer:

Ok. So I shouldn't start taking anything else I assume?

Dr Brims :

I don't think you need to take anything else at this time

Customer:

Ok then. Thank you so much.

Dr Brims :

You're quite welcome
