I have been taking simvastatin (20mg) ramipril (10mg) and levothyroxine (150 mg) without side effects for a number of years. A month ago I was also prescribed dilzem SR (90 mg) twice a day. I am wondering if the following are side effects: for more than a week I have experience the most severe pains in the muscles of my upper left arm. The pain has spread to the whole arm and this morning, on waking, I have found an unpleasant rash broken out on my lower arm. Thanks.
Dr. Saha : Hello,
Dr. Saha : Welcome to Just Answer.
Dr. Saha : Is the rash on the same arm as the pain?
Customer: good morning, can you help?
Dr. Saha : Please reply. I shall try my best.
Customer: yes
Dr. Saha : How does the rash look like?
Customer: small blisters in a red area two inches in diameter
Dr. Saha : This does not seem to be a side effect of dilzem.
Dr. Saha : There can be herpes zoster or shingles.
Dr. Saha : This can be associated with much pain & blister like rash.
Dr. Saha : I would suggest to take an examination by doctor.
Customer: it crossed my mind that it could be shingles.
Dr. Saha : Antiviral treatment needs to be started early.
Customer: Thanks for your advice
Dr. Saha : This will help to prevent post herpetic complications.
Dr. Saha : You are always welcome.
Dr. Saha : My goal is to provide you with excellent service today.
Dr. Saha : If there’s anything else I can do, please let me know
Dr. Saha : If you are satisfied, please leave an excellent rating.
Customer: I thought herpes was contracted sexually. If so it must be shingles rather than herpes.
Dr. Saha : That herpes is different.
Dr. Saha : That one is genital herpes.
Customer: how is this type of herpes contracted?
Dr. Saha : It is herpes zoster or shingles.
Dr. Saha : This is related to reactivation of virus & related to chicken pox.
Customer: All this rings a bell as I worked with someone who had shingles a number of years ago. Thanks for everything. Good bye
Dr. Saha : Best wishes.
