For the past year and a half I have had a swelling of both

This answer was rated:

For the past year and a half I have had a swelling of both of my ring fingers. Even stranger this swelling happened within a 24 hour period. I had been on a plane from Orange County, CA to Seattle. I had my rings on during the flight. My fingers became swollen (typical) and when I reached my hotel I removed my rings with some difficulty. I have never been able to put them on since. My fingers are disfigured. The bottom of the finger extremely swollen and bending the joint at my knuckle. From the knuckle up my fingers appear normal.
I can not make a fist and when I bend my fingers to the maximum I can hear a crunching celophane sound. Like sand in a gear. I have been tested for arthritis and gout and both have come back negative. My hands have become extremely painful.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Please help.

Thank you Sally, for the detail information,
From your history it seems to be arthritis.
Gout, rheumatoid arthritis usually give positive results on blood tests.
Rheumatoid arthritis can affect both sides & symmetrically.
Knuckle of the fingers or metacarpophalangeal joints are commonly affected.
Blood tests are taken but may not be positive in all cases.
Tendinitis or inflammation of tendon, tenosynovitis are also possible.
Osteoarthritis can have normal blood tests.
This is one possibility when you have a family history.
Sometimes seronegative arthritis can be there.
Treatment would depend on the specific diagnosis, as you understand.
For symptomatic relief, in addition to pain medicines, application of heat, physiotherapy can be helpful.
My goal is to provide you with excellent service today. If there’s anything else I can do, please let me know.
Best Wishes.
