hi i have tenderness under my tongue as in the bottom of my mouth where the tongue attaches to the base . It feels a little hard or just swollen in the base of the mouth under the tongue ( not the actual tongue) with a little nodule on the base where the tongue attaches at its base. Is this anything to be worried about ? I don't really like going to the doctors about small things but its an odd place to feel sore ! Thank you.
Dr. Saha :

Hello,

Dr. Saha :

Welcome to Just Answer.

Dr. Saha :

When did the symptom start?

Customer:

I had it about a month or three weeks back . It went away and it reappeared yesterday.

Dr. Saha :

Where exactly do you feel it?

Dr. Saha :

Is it increasing in size?

Customer:

the opposite to the roof of the roof of the mouth as in the base of teh mouth under teh tongue where the tongue attaches to the lower mouth.

Dr. Saha :

There can be swollen salivary gland there under the tongue.

Dr. Saha :

This can arise from the blockage of its duct.

Dr. Saha :

Sometimes there can be inflammation which can cause pain.

Dr. Saha :

Occasionally there can be mucus cyst.

Dr. Saha :

When it is recurring, I would suggest to get it checked by doctor.

Dr. Saha :

Please feel free to ask, if you have any further query.

Customer:

Ok will do - waht can they do , would they drain it or treat with anti biotics? Also is it a common thing.. as in will my doctor be aware of this sort of thign so as to 'diagnose' properly. I take it it's not unusual.

Dr. Saha :

This is not unusual. If there is an infection, doctor can prescribe antibiotics. He can also advise to observe it.

Customer:

Thank you for your help. Cheerio !

Dr. Saha :

You are always welcome.

Dr. Saha :

Best wishes.
