I fell a week ago at my sister's house. When I fell, I landed on the back of my right shoulder. I had bruises on my back, my collar bone, my neck, my forearm and elbow. My question is: could something be broken or chipped and in need of attention because everything is sooooo sore and my grip is not very strong in my right hand. Since I could move my fingers and arm, I assumed everything was okay, but it hurts so much I'm concerned.

Hello and welcome, I am happy to help you today.

Dr. R. Bora :

If your shoulder feels sore one week after the fall, you could be having a small chip frature or even a dislocation.

Dr. R. Bora :

However, one more possibility is a ligament tear known as "rotator cuff tear".

Customer:

But would I be able to use my arm if this was the case?

Customer:

What can I do for that condition?

Dr. R. Bora :

You may be able to move your fingers but not use your arm.

Customer:

Well, I can use my arm.

Dr. R. Bora :

Have you done an X ray as yet?

Customer:

No, I haven't.

Dr. R. Bora :

OK. I guess you have already used ice after the fall and taken pain killers.

Dr. R. Bora :

Have you tried anything else?

Customer:

Yes.

Dr. R. Bora :

Thanks.Have you tried anything else?

Customer:

Just heat. I hurts really bad when I try to lie on my right side.

Dr. R. Bora :

Ok, This sounds like you urgently need an MRI of the shoulder joint to exclude rotator cuff tear.

Customer:

Okay, thank you.

Dr. R. Bora :

Here, the ligament supporting the shoulder could get torn by a fall which can make your movement painful.

Dr. R. Bora :

The pain could also be due to mild inflammation of the joint from the fall, something called bursitis.

Dr. R. Bora :

So, seeing your GP at this point is advisable.

Customer:

Thank you for your advice.

Dr. R. Bora :

Both these conditions may requires physical therapy.

Dr. R. Bora :

You are welcome.
