I am a 60 year old married male in fairly good health. I do not smoke, drink or use recreational drugs. Lately, I've been having a moist fluid substance around my rectum when I wake up in the morning. I rectum is a little sore to the touch. If I wipe the mucus like fluid away it seem to slightly return. Things seem to level out during the day. My stool is normal, I have at least two bowel movements a day.

Any redness,itching,burning sensation around anus?

Blood in stool?

Any other medical illness?

Are you taking any medicines?

Duration of symptoms?

Have you consulted your doctor?

Yes, there is a little itching and burning after I wipe away the fluid/mucus for a little while. No blood any where. I'm never sick. I'm not on any medication. I just take over the counter vitamins. This has been on going for about a month now. I haven't contacted my personal doctor has of yet.

Thanks for providing more information.

As you have itching and burning sensation along with moist anus so potential differential diagnosis may include fungal infection,Anal fissure, fistula, hemorrhoids, pinworm infection.

As you are suffering for a month so it is good's idea to consult your regular doctor or proctologist for a clinical examination.

A physical evaluation along with few investigations like blood and stool analysis/ colonoscopy will give you proper diagnosis.
Till then - have balanced diet, adequate fluids/ avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy food or caffeine.

Keep the region clean.
You can try OTC Prep H cream on anus.

Try warm sitz bath.

If itching is severe then take OTC Cetrizine.

Hope this helps.
