I have been on for three months. I had knee surgery and a DVT in my calf. I have since had an ultrasound to confirm that the clot is gone. The dose has varied between 7.5 and 10 mg per day (I go to an anticoag clinic). My concern is that I was originally told that I would be on a for a minimum of 3 months, but now they are saying 6 months. I would really like to discontinue because my knee is still sore and swollen and I would like to take advil. I am a non smoker, no family history of clots, and I am active.

Hi--the other expert is off line. If the clot is completely gone, then you could come off the coumadin now. The six month recommendation is only a window that some doctors go by. But before you stop it you should consult with your doctor.
