I have a sharp pain in my neck when I tilt or turn it to the right side, just happened as I sitting on the computer. What do I do?

Dr. Nomi :

Hi,

Dr. Nomi :

Any history of neck or back trauma ?

Customer:

Hi and no

Customer:

It just happened out of the blue

Dr. Nomi :

Most likely it is just muscular pain which is caused by working on computer for long hours or mantaining a bad posture while working.

Customer:

that seems likely because I work at a call center where I'm in front of a computer for long periods of the day. How long does this last?

Customer:

Any other diagnosis of what it may be?

Dr. Nomi :

Rest your neck periodically if you maintain the same position for long periods. Try over-the-counter pain medication, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and acetaminophen for short-term pain relief. Gently stretch your neck by lowering your head to one shoulder as far as your pain will allow, holding for 30 seconds then alternating sides. Apply cold, such as an ice pack, for 10 minutes. Follow that with heat if it helps your pain.

Dr. Nomi :

Just massage with Ibuprofen or Deep Heat gel twice a day can also help.

Customer:

Okay then. Thanks

Dr. Nomi :

Try to keep your back straight while at work.

Dr. Nomi :

Welcome.

Dr. Nomi :

Wish you good health.
