Customer Question

I was in the shower 2 weeks ago and turned and heard and felt my knee pop. I then had a lot of pain and swelling in my knee. I have been elevating it, wearing a knee brace and taking ib profin for the pain and swelling. Now my knee just keeps popping, you can actually watch the tendon pop on the outside of my knee when I extend it. Should I be walking on it? I am afraid i am injuring it more by walking on it. I see the orthopedist tuesday.

Greetings Ashley.

There are few possibilites;

1) tendonitis
2) bursitis
3) partial ligament rupture.

All three can co-exist in your case in varying severity.

The first step is to get an MRI to assess the cause. Meanwhile, avoid prolonged standing, walking and the painful activities. Continue with the knee brace. Physical therapy and deep electrotherapy (iontophoresis / phonophoresis), cold compresses, acupuncture and relative rest would help in healing.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.
