I have had celiac disease undiagnosed now for as as I can

Resolved Question:

I have had celiac disease undiagnosed now for as long as I can remember. I am now 23 and will be 24 in a few months and I just found out. I have always been told I am a late bloomer but, I still look 16. Once, I am gluten free will puberty catch up and can I still grow at this age or will my body look the way it does now? Also how long will it take to see changes?

Dr. Singh :

Celiac disease is known to cause delayed puberty and growth which is likely caused by impaired growth hormone production. A gluten free diet can help reverse this. However, with that being said, bones tend to mature and stop growing by around age 25. So, although your hormones may normalize, your growth may be limited.

Dr. Singh :

It may take a few months of being on the gluten free diet before you see any changes.
