For the past three or four day's I've had a dry cough

Customer Question

For the past three or four day's I've had a dry cough (although I will occasionally cough up green/yellow phlegm) that gets worse at night. During the day I probably average about one cough per hour, but at night they're close enough together to prevent me from sleeping. I keep my room at a low humidity because of a dust mite allergy. How can I fall asleep? Also, is my cough contagious? I don't want to get anyone sick.

The symptoms might have started as viral infection which usually resolve by itself with supportive therapy in 3-5 days.

Yellow green mucus can occur in the healing stage of viral infection or with the onset of bacterial infection.

When the cough is disturbing your sleep,an examination by doctor should be taken.

In case of bacterial infection, start of antibiotic will reduce the symptoms.

These infections can be contagious.

When you have a history of allergy, this may contribute.

Zyrtec or benadryl can help in that case.

I feel you need to consult doctor for evaluation and treatment.

I hope this information helps.

I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.
