i had carpal tunnel 1 month ago it has been healing ok but tonight i started getting very bad pain in the palm of my hand. on a hand anatomy diagram i am looking at it is called the thenar. it is hurting every couple of minutes sometimes it is like being stabbed by a hot poker and when it is worse it is shooting up my arm all the way to the back of my head. it is taking my breath away also index finger is asleep ice? heat? why? help?

Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen.
If symptoms persist you may need a Corticosteroid injections. This will be given into the carpal tunnel area,
This helps to relieve symptoms for a period of time.
Wearing splint in hand at night also helps.
If medical treatment fails the surgery is required in advance and severe cases .
The goal of surgery is to take pressure off the nerve at the wrist.
