Is it on the neck region?Or where exactly is the location?

Do you have dandruff or any scalp infection?

Sore throat or sinusitis ?

Does it increase in size when you cough ?

Is it painful to touch or press it ?

Is it freely mobile under the skin?

Any other symptoms .

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Painful yes
Sore throat yes
Upper neck base of skull right hand side
Not mobile under skin but too painful to press
Dandruff always a minor problem

It seems like an enlarged lymph node due to the infection.Usually neck nodes enlarge when there is an infection in the head , neck and face region. As it is painful and tender it indicates active inflammation.
It is better to see your doctor and start on antibiotics to resolve the infection and also the node.If the node doesn't come down with antibiotics , then further tests like needle biopsy have to be done.
Rarely it could be a lipoma(painless) or infected sebaceous cyst.

You can take tylenol or motrin for the pain and the inflammation to reduce in the meanwhile.Hot fomentation may help with pain.

I hope this helps you
