Hello. Thank you for coming to JustAnswer with your question, and welcome.

The most common cause of musical hallucinosis is hearing loss, though there are other causes as well. Most elderly people with this problem though, have a problem with deafness to a certain extent.

There is no "cure" for it, and most treatment, including medications, is not effective. Some people can benefit from correcting hearing losses with hearing aids. Also, masking of the sounds with other music or "white noise" can help.

Most often, this is not caused by a "mental illness" or dementia. So, if you do not have other symptoms that would warrant the use of an antipsychotic medication, it would not be wise to use this. These medications have many side effects that most people of advanced years cannot tolerate especially if you are living independently. Instead, you might request a referral to a specialist to check for hearing loss and see if correction can benefit you.
