My right lower leg and ankle swell more than my left. I am

Resolved Question:

My right lower leg and ankle swell more than my left. I am 50 years old, an insulin dependent diabetic and heavy smoker. When I lay down and elevate my legs above my heart my left leg will return to it's normal size but the right one will get a little smaller but not go back to normal. I'm 5'3" and weigh 227. There is pain at times in my leg but it comes and goes and is not too bad. I have had a complete cardiac work up and my cardiologist told me that everything came out normal. The only thing left that I can think of is possible DVT's. Do you agree or do you think it could be something else?

Have they done doppler ultrasound of leg?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Not yet. I don't know if that is something I should go to the ER for or not

Do you feel any respiratory distress ?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I just had a chest x-ray done Sunday night that my primary doctor had ordered because I have a very deep and wet cough. I got the call from my doctor's office today that the x-ray was negative.

I am sorry but i am not clear. I just want to know that since how long you have this leg swelling exactly.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I'm not having any respiratory distress except for a cough and the leg swelling started approx. two weeks ago

No it doesnot sounds like DVT specially because of absence of associated symptoms and because of long history.

However its related to the vascular problem but typically not like DVT.

I suggest that you should visit doctor at the earliest, its not an emergency but you should go to local doctor at the earliest and should ask for doppler ultrasound and things will be much clear.

It might be just incompetent vessels not draining the blood properly.

DVT not the first diagnosis but still early visit to local doctor is suggested.

I hope this helps you.

Sorry for the delay.
