Colonscopy only half done because of redundant bowel-what is

Resolved Question:

colonscopy only half done because of redundant bowel-what is it?

A redundant bowel is a bowel that is longer than normal and may loop around. It is a normal variation and does not typically have any health consequences whatsoever. It can make a colonoscopy difficult, however, because of these extra twists and loops.

A rare complication of a redundant bowel is something called a volvulus...this is where the bowel can twist around itself and lead to a bowel obstruction. Symptoms of this include abdominal pain that gets progressively worse, bloating, no gas passing through the rectum. If you develop any of these symptoms, prompt medical attention is necessary.
