Resolved Question:

I want to have a colonoscopy (sp?).....I am 66 yrs. old. I have tried twice and both times ended up in the hospital because anything they give me makes me vomit and very sick. I cannot get a doctor to ...#1...believe me...they make light of it and blow me off or #2 give me any alternatives. Even when I was young I was never able to tolerate any type of laxative....what is your advice? Thanks....Trudy

Dr J Burk :

Hi

Dr J Burk :

Why do you want to have a colonoscopy?

Customer:

Because all the health news says everyone over 50 should have one. No family history or symtoms...just trying to take care of my health...thanks

Dr J Burk :

Hi

Dr J Burk :

That

Dr J Burk :

There is no good evidence for that.

Dr J Burk :

Screening over 60's with tests for microscopic traces of blood and then scoping those who test positive is worthwhile - scoping everyone over 50 has no evidence base.
