I went to ER with palpitations a few days ago, EKG, cardiac enzymes, chest x ray, all normal. Blood work all normal except for K of 3.3. I have been having musle weakness, dizziness, and some palpitations for last few weeks.
Did they prescribed you any potassium?
No, they gave me 40mEq PO in ER, then discharged.
Levels below 3.0 mEq/liter may require intravenous replacement.
3.3 is definately low.
This stage oral replacement can be taken but only with your doctor permission.
You should not take this medication own your own.
This can be dangerous.
Common doses given are 10-20mEq per day
Yes I looked up dosage but is difficult to tell how long it will take to get to safe level, periodic lab draws I guess?
yes regular lab check is required.
High levels can be dangerous also.
