Have you been evaluated by a gastroenterologist for the same?
yes, last month
Recent lab work showed negative for giardia, celiac and some other items.
Did he talk about the possibility of IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome
I don't recall that specifically.
He administered a colonoscopy Dec 2009
And that was normal?
How many stools do you have daily?
IBS was discussed at that time, I believe
Normal colonoscopy, small polyp removed, modest signs of diverticulosis.
one bm par day, slightly less frequent after days of Immodium. My last was after 1.5-2 days.
Well do you have any specific problems other than the mushiness of stools?
...and virtually same mush. Takes 10+ minutes, water, liquid soap, 1/5 roll of toilet paper, with a finger up the anus almost to the sigmoid. Very very depressing, and I have to carry supplies with me everywhere.
moderate flatulence, same as all the other years. Most noticeable when I uncoil to lay out at bedtime.
No sign of GERD I had years back.
It's 5am now and I'm starting to crash here.
What do you think specifically could cause my lazy colon to fail to remove the liquid element. I don't drink a LOT of water. No signs of cirrhosis, liver profile looks ok despite these awful meds.
I believe that this is consistent with a form of IBS
Given the normal test results and the chronicity of symptoms
PSA has crept up over 5.0 touching 8 this year.
Doesn't IBS usually produce cramping and maybe diarrhea. Or is that just Crohn's?
Yes it does
However persistent crohns would be much more severe with bloody diarrhea and other signs too
I would recommend a trial of specific medications used for IBS under the monitoring of a GE specialist

Have you ever encountered my specific malady and complaint? Successfully?
Lotronex and certain anti-depressants lime impramine may be useful
Significant relief is often achieved
Though complete cure may remain elusive
God bless me, more meds!
Lotronex and certain anti-depressants lime impramine may be useful. Is that "like' or "lime"?
OK. Any more prognosis?
Prognosis is good
Must be fun there, multitasking. I'll say good night/morning then.
Since this is not a life threatening or even a problem that worsens in most people
And with specific treatment the chances of recovery are quite good

You suggest going back to my GE then? Oops, I am changing insurance and medical group next month, must get referred to a new GE..
Because only prescription treatment is likely to be of benefit and you would need monitoring too
Goodnight, thanks for listening.
