My 12yr old daughter was just bitten by our dog , he has broken the skin and its slightly swollen .
She is up to date with all her childhood immunisations but does she still need to have a tetanus injection and medical attention ?

Where did the bite occur?
Does the bite appear deep?
Did it bleed?

Its on her leg just under her knee ,yes it did bleed (not alot though) . She has three puncture like marks two on the front and one at the back of her leg , its hard to say how deep really , he's broke through her jeans .

Thank you for you help

Did she get her 11-12 year tetanus?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
she had that on october 12th this year
Good, then she is up to date and does not need another.

As far as antibiotics..human and cat bites are the ones that are most prone to infections.
Dog bites can also lead to infection if deep puncture wounds...and are higher risk if on the hand as well. The area where her bite occurred is lower risk.

For now, what I would do is make sure you clean the area of the bite really well with soap and water. Keep the leg elevated, give her tylenol or ibuprofen if she needs it for pain.
Watch closely for any increasing redness, increasing pain, warmth or drainage of pus.
If any of these develop, take her to her pediatrician.

Thank you very much for your help ,

should we put any plasters or creams onto the bite or just leave it clean and dry ?

apply an antibiotic ointment and a bandaid.
