Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. Dreams are just the mind's way of working through happenings and sorting them out. They really aren't a "sign" of anything in particular. Dreaming is totally normal. If the dreams are disturbing to you, some counseling may help you to sort out your feelings in the daytime so they don't bother you at night. Good sleep hygiene may also help (i.e. cool, dark bedroom, no TV in bed before sleep, no caffeine after 3 p.m., no food for 3 hours before sleep, etc.).

I'm specifically referring to "nightmares" with very specific people and settings.

Then you need some counseling to sort out your feelings so they don't bother you while you are trying to sleep. Sleep medication doesn't really help since that interferes with the brain processing memories.
