Resolved Question:

I have had a lump in my left arm pit for about 4 months. I asked my doctor about it and he pooh-poohed it; yesterday my armpit started feeling sore...like I strained it; I didn't. Today the lump is larger and painful. What should I do?

Hello

DrTharun :

How big is the lump - Size? Is there any lump in the breast you can feel? Any discharge, fever. redness?

DrTharun :

Any medical illness like diabetes? Any medications you are on?

JACUSTOMER-h57b6ug4- :

About an inch in diameter...none on the breast. no discharge...just feel it and no redness but soreness. I had blood sugar checked 4 months ago no diabetes. I am on acyclovir and prozac and just started a month ago topical estrogen.

DrTharun :

If there is soreness in the swelling ,then there is some inflammation in the swelling. It could be infected sweat glad or cyst.It may require a course of antibiotic to settle it before there is pus formation.

DrTharun :

I would suggest you to see your doctor who can prescribe the medications and of necessary remove it at a later date when there is no infection.

JACUSTOMER-h57b6ug4- :

So it wouldn't be cancer?

DrTharun :

Difficult to tell unless the lump is biopsied. But if there is no lump in the breast then there are less chances.

DrTharun :

you should get a mammogram done to clear it off.

JACUSTOMER-h57b6ug4- :

I had a mammogram in June...

DrTharun :

Was it clear?

JACUSTOMER-h57b6ug4- :

Yes, they said it was

DrTharun :

Very rare to develop a cancer in 4 months with a node in the armpit so fast.

JACUSTOMER-h57b6ug4- :

DrTharun :

OK. Take care.
