I just had a white blood count of over 70,000 during a routine

Customer Question

I just had a white blood count of over 70,000 during a routine wellness physical. My doctor is very concerned and is referring me to a hematologist as soon as possible. Is this an extremely high white blood count?

Hello, Welcome to Just answer!

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

Hello.

Dr. Shah :

hi

Dr. Shah :

Was it just discovered on routine testing?

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

Do you have an anwer for me?

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

Yes this morning. I was having a wellness physical.

Dr. Shah :

Do you have any symptoms or any other medical problems?

Dr. Shah :

Just in one line, yes, your WBC is very high. Normal range is 4000 to 11000

Dr. Shah :

Your doctor is doing right this by sending you to a hematologist... they will do resies of tests to pin point the exact cause

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

I have been dieting and have lost 42 pounds in the last 4 1/2 months. My blood pressure medicene has been reduced twice. I have been feeling very tired and dizzy, but I thought it was because my blood pressure has dropped significantly.

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

What could be causing it? I am extremely nervous about this.

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

And if it is leukemia, what type would be most likely?

Dr. Shah :

No, I don't think that it is due to blood pressure.

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

I am a 52 year old female and have no history of that in the family--other cancers yes, but not leukemia

Dr. Shah :

at any cost leukemia has to be rule out. This will require proper investigation to make firm conclusion

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

I want to know which kind is more likely at my age.

Dr. Shah :

Just wait I am typing you answer

Dr. Shah :

There are four different type of leukemia, all of them can affect adult, but at your age I would think about chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It usually affect people around 55 age and almost never happen in children.

Dr. Shah :

This is just for the information purpose. The exact cause can be found only by investigation. It is not possible to predict the type by symptoms.

JACUSTOMER-86jj9l6r- :

What is the treatment for that type?

Dr. Shah :

treatment options are decided based on the stage, sigh and symptoms and your health status.

Dr. Shah :

You are read about this type of leukemia from this link
