I would like to help but require some additional information.

1. Where exactly is the pain?
2. Any swelling? Warmth? Redness?
3. Any other associated symptoms such as fever?
4. Any recent trauma?
5. Medical conditions?

Thank you for the additional information.

Likely causes of numbness/pain in the lower extremity include neuropathy (can be caused by a number of things which include a pinched nerve, diabetes, thyroid disorder, electrolyte abnormalities, vitamin deficiencies), peripheral arterial disease, venous stasis.

I would recommend that he be seen by his doctor soon to have a proper exam, some blood work done, he may require an MRI of his lumbar spine as well as an ultrasound of his leg to assess blood flow.

In the meantime, he can take tylenol or ibuprofen to help with the pain. He should also elevate his legs as much as possible and rest.
