Bacterial pneumonia is a very serious condition, not treated with a simple 5 day course of antibiotics like Z-pac. Levaquin is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for bacterial pneumonia, particularly if the patient also has other health problems like hypertension, respiratory disorders, or is in frail health. A serious illness requires a serious antibiotic to help prevent the possibility of complications and hospitalization. Most people get no side effects from Levaquin, and the dosage you have been given is typical. You can read all kinds of horror stories on the internet, but you don't necessarily know if the person's problems came from Levaquin or some other problem altogether.
