What is wrong with my finger nails? In the last six months mt nails have chiped, big hunks have been broken out of the sides. I don't get far away from my fingernail clipper.

I am not on any mdication other than vitamins. not diabetic. toe nails are ok. no heart problems.

Such brittle nails could be because of fungal infection which typically presents with breakage of nails ans irregular nails.

Iron deficiency can also produce nail changes.

But I would suggest , you start on anti-fungal cream like candid for at least 2-3 weeks or oral anti-fungals like ketaconazole or gresiofulvin.Keep minimal contact with water.

If it does not help, iron supplements may have to be taken.May be a visit to the doctor will be beneficial in such non responding cases.
