DDAVP also known as Vasopressin is a synthetic version of a pituiatery hormone ADH (Anti-Diuretic Hormone) This drug is used in several different applications. It is useful used in a PM dosing schedule to help reduce bedwetting for one. It is used in the condition of certain types of diabetes insipidus(this is a condition in which the kidneys are excreting too much water. This can occur in head injuries and certain injuries to the kidneys(Lithium toxity as an example of the latter) This drug is also useful in two bvleeding disorders >>> namely hemophilia and von Willlebrands type 2. The drug increases the activity of factor 8 which is part of the body's clotting system.

Among the most severe of the potential adverse effects of the drug is over-compensation maiking the body retain too much water and this may drive the sodium down too low (causing hyponatremia). Hyponatremia can cause CNS problems and seizures .
