Powdered formula is usually mixed as one scoop to 2 ounces of water, making 20 calories per ounce, so 3 ml of mixed formula is 2 calories. It would be easier to mix up the formula as directed and then add the formula at a rate of 3 ml per ounce of breast milk to add up to 22 calories per ounce, or for a 4 ounce bottle of breast milk, add 12 ml of mixed Similac Advance.

Trying to measure the powder is more cumbersome where just adding the premixed formula is easier and you can mix up a few ounces each day and waste very little, plus you have less entries into the powder can and less chance of contaminating it.
