When should a cough be looked at? I hardly ever get them, but I have a pretty bad one that started Monday. I have lost my voice, and when I cough up phlegm it's thick and greenish yellow.

Welcome to JustAnswer!

Do you have fever?

Do you smoke?

Do you have heartburn?

May I know who prescribed prednisone for tonsillitis?

Customer: replied 8 years ago.
No fever; no breathlessness; ; no smoking; I have Acid Reflux and take Prilosec for it. I was seen by my ENT last week who prescribed the prednisone.

What you have is acute cough which is most often due to upper respiratory infection.

Since you have acid reflux it could the precipitating factor also.

A course of antibiotics along with painkillers , salt water gargling and prilosec may be helpful.
