Resolved Question:

40 yr old female, with regular cycles, except this time. My cycle started on 2/18/09 and it was very heavy from the start I will say for the most part it has been unusual for me. It is still going but like more or less like a discharge and it is 10 days later. Should I be alarmed.

Do you take any contraceptive?

Any pain / foull smell?

No, I have degenerative fibroid tumors. Last pap in 2008 with ultra sound fibroids were fine. No pain. No foul odor. Just very dark lining shedding.

Thank you for the information,

The prolonged bleeding can be due to fibroid too.

The condition is called menorrhagia.

There can be many other possibilities like infection, hormonal imbalance, any growth, dysfunction of ovaries, pregnancy etc.

The endometrium developed in excess and eventually sheds by way of heavy menstrual bleeding.

If it continues and or the next cycle have same repetition the cause needs to be found out.

In that case, you should have an examination by gynecologist to find the cause & start treatment.

I hope this information will be helpful.

Please ask if you need any clarification.

Best wishes.
