That blood pressure is very high.

If this is the first time you have been evaluated with a high blood pressure, it is normal for your doctor to get an ECG -- to evaluate the electrical conduction of your heart.

The doctor wants to ensure there isn't a more immediate pressing issue (like heart attack, or a precursor to a heart attack) going on now, which would need immediate treatment.

Obviously, long term blood pressure cannot be this high, so if there is no immediately serious medical condition to treat, your doctor will want to run further tests and start you on blood pressure medication. A blood pressure consistently this high will greatly increase your risk of cardiovascular diseases, including strokes.
