I fell down onto my left knee on concrete, after a few weeks

Customer Question

I fell down onto my left knee on concrete, after a few weeks it is still hurting and it seems like I have fluid in it and it is swollen. What does this mean?

The swelling after a trauma is most likely due to a "hemarthroses" that is a bleeding within the joint.

You need to have this evaluated by a doctor, preferably an Orthopedician.

This might need an aspiration( removal of the fluid ) and probably an MRI of your knee to look for any other soft tissue or ligamentous injury.

Please keep your leg elevated by placing a pillow under your knee and apply lots of ice, that should help with the pain and swelling.

It would be wise to wear a knee brace to support the knee and avoid aggravation of the injury while walking.

Kind Regards,

Why do I have the fluid in my knee - what is making that happen?

You are most probably having a bleed within your knee because of the fall.

That is causing the swelling.
