Female with night sweats, age 70, interested in knowing why

Customer Question

Female with night sweats, age 70, interested in knowing why the sweat has a vinegary odor?

Greetings:

let me explain like this:

Vinegar smell is caused by chemicals called ketones(in patients with diabetes), also perhaps pheremones(in young ages). Isovaleric acid produced by bacteria(Staphylococcus epidermidis) which is present on the skin surface can also cause vinegar like smell..some kind of acidbase disbalance in the body may also cause this...
night sweats are common in women with menopause(in your case you had hysterectomy )...but some other reasons like
Neurologic
Metabolic disorders or processes (eg, thyrotoxicosis, diabetes mellitus)
hypoglycemia(less blood glucose)
gout, pheochromocytoma,
Febrile illnesses
Use of some medications (eg, propranolol, physostigmine, pilocarpine, tricyclic antidepressants, venlafaxine)
lets talk about the treatment
as a rule, excess sweating will become normal if the underlying cause is treated.
but meanwhile you can use:
Aluminum chloride (20% Drysol) just apply it on the area for 6-7 days,remember to put on dry area.it will decrease your sweating upto some extent.
but i suggest you to visit endocrinologist to rule out the possible hidden causes and evaluate the severity of your symptoms and act accordingly.

i hope this information will be useful!
